WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY

6-19-08 – WHERE DID HE GO?

2 Kings 2:16-18
16 "Sir," they said, "just say the word and fifty of our strongest men will search the wilderness for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has left him on some mountain or in some valley."
"No," Elisha said, "don't send them." 17 But they kept urging him until he was embarrassed, and he finally said, "All right, send them." So fifty men searched for three days but did not find Elijah. 18 Elisha was still at Jericho when they returned. "Didn't I tell you not to go?" he asked. NLT** I’m wondering if these men wanted Elijah as the prophet over Elisha? They were so persistent to keep looking for him after he was taken up. So goes the circle of ministry life. One leader leaves and another takes over and the people are left with a leader that they may or may not approve of. Some congregations never accept the new pastor because of the greatness of the last pastor and boy do I feel sorry for the new pastor….. it’s difficult enough to have to lead a group of people more less to fill someone else’s shoes. As a pioneer pastor, I’ve not had to be compared to someone else until I merged our church with another sister church and became the Sr. pastor of both churches. Right off the bat I could see a comparison going on. I do want you to note that when Elijah left, he also left a double portion of the anointing with Elisha and after Elisha was done with his ministry, he had done twice as many miracles at Elijah did. Lord I pray for you anointing to lead this people to greatness. Not to be a good church, but to be a GREAT church.

6-18-08 – WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR

2 Chron 18:7 7 King Ahab replied, "There is still one prophet of the LORD, but I hate him. He never prophesies anything but bad news for me! His name is Micaiah son of Imlah." NLT ** We want to hear from God and what Him to speak to us but like Ahab, we don’t want God to say things against the plans we have already made. The reason Michaiah always prophesied bad things against Ahab was because Ahab always walked away from the plans of God. We can blame God and His prophets, preachers, teachers and ministers for all the bad news we think they are bringing because of our disobedience to God or we can choose to follow God and obey Him and then when all His workers speak to us, it will be good news.

Pastor Dave - I love reading your "blog" - I love the way you deliver the message on Sundays and challenge us to be all that God wants us to be.
I about fell out of my chair this past Sunday when you spoke about not making deals with the enemy, because that was what I wrote in my journal that morning and again when you spoke about God knowing our thoughts before we even think them (Psalm 139:4). I had just read Psalm 139 that morning and that verse really stood out for me. I am so thankful God placed me in a strong church, led by a strong pastor who is not afraid to speak the truth of God's word to those he has been placed in authority over.
Joshua 1:6-9 are favorite verses for me. God says 4 times in those few verses to be "strong and courageous"
Verse 6 really makes me think of you - "Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them."

I praise God and thank Him everyday for you and Tandi. Be blessed. See you at the council meeting tonight.

Roxanne (In His strong grip)
