OFFERINGS THAT COST
2 Sam 24:24-25
24 However, the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God which cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. NASU
It’s always easy to offer an offering that didn’t cost us anything. I think of this as the same way as when someone rents a car or goes to buy something on someone else’s credit card. We often get careless with the car does not belong to us because we know we will not have to drive it any more nor put up with the consequences after we misuse it. David realized that if he didn’t have to pay for the offering he was going to offer, that it would not show God that this offering and the presentation of it means a lot to him. So it is with us. When I give to God an offering or a vow, I want God to know that it was something that meant a lot to me and that it cost me a lot so He would see how much I love Him and how serious my offering is.
